About Our School

The Palmetto Christian Academy started as The Village School of Gaffney. The name change came after a re-banding of the school, which was caused by an increase of students, upgraded learning, implemtation of technology, and more great things. The school was formed in 2002 after a group of interested parents came together to discuss alternative options of education for their children. The Village School of Gaffney was patterned after the Village School of Spartanburg founded by Rosemary Moore in 1991. Mrs. Moore’s vision was to create a cross-cultural Christian school where children were united by their willingness to work and learn. The curriculum was primarily influenced by the work of the great English educator, Miss Charlotte Mason, who established village schools in England at the turn of the last century. Miss Mason’s academic emphasis was to put children in touch with nature and classics of literature, art, and music. Her approach was to offer a classical, broad-based curriculum to all children, regardless of economic or social background. This philosophy has proven successful for more than a century and for over 15 years here at TVSG. In the 2019-20 school year, we were proud to expand our school to include a 9th grade, and the following year, we added a 10th grade as well. We look forward to growing even more in the coming years.
